Grandma's Book Club helps you to form a close and lasting relationship with your grandchildren, no matter how near or far away they are.

Looking for new ways to connect?

Grandma’s Book Club uses children’s picture books to create a bond between grandmas and grandchildren and to foster a love of reading and learning. It is for any grandma with a grandchild in kindergarten, first grade or second grade.

Grandpas, uncles, aunts and friends are also welcome to join. The materials will be adjusted accordingly.

How does it work?

There are six books for kindergartners, six for first graders and six for second graders. Each book comes with an activity booklet especially designed to encourage creative thinking, curiosity about the world and understanding of human behavior. These booklets contain language arts, math, science and social studies activities based on concepts in the book. Some are just fun while others are thought provoking. Most are interactive in that the children are given questions to ask their grandma and pictures to color or stories to write to send to their grandma. They are also told to ask their grandma to send them pictures and stories back.

A grandma’s discussion guide accompanies each book. These guides contain suggestions of things to talk about. They may be stories of childhood, memories of life as it was, or experiences similar to those in the book the child has just read. Sometimes the suggested topics have to do with how the world works and others revolve around relationships and feelings.

Your Choice

Buy one book with its activity booklet and discussion guide. If you and your grandchild enjoy reading the book and using the materials, buy another one.

Buy a year’s membership in Grandma’s Book Club. For this membership you will receive all six books with their activity booklets and discussions guides. You will also get six pieces of Grandma’s Book Club stationary to write a note to your grandchild when you send or deliver the book and a certificate for your grandchild declaring him or her to be a member of Grandma’s Book Club. You can give all six books at once, give them just for special occasions or give your grandchild one every other month.

Anyone who buys one of Grandma’s Book Club activity booklets has access to Grandma’s Book Club website. This site has music, art, photographs, videos and other materials that add to, enrich and extend the ideas and concepts in the books. The site has a page for kindergartners, one for first graders and one for second graders. It is easy to use and children can access the material themselves.
